A crown is a type of dental restoration which completely caps or encircles a tooth or dental implant. Crowns are often needed when a large cavity threatens the ongoing health of a tooth. They are bonded to the tooth using a dental cement. Crowns are often used to improve the strength or appearance of teeth. Because they go on over what is already there, there is no need for the tooth to be pulled. Crowns are an excellent way to improve a smile quickly and efficiently, and a temporary crown is placed while the permanent crown is being made typically in about three weeks.
Bridges resemble natural teeth, and are designed to take the place of areas where there are missing teeth. A bridge is a stationary dental prosthesis fixed to teeth adjacent to a space. It replaces one or more missing teeth, cemented or bonded, to supporting teeth or implants adjacent to the space. If you need a crown or bridge, you’ll be expertly fitted by Dr. Tran. No more worrying that the crown or bridge is going to be ill fitting or look unnatural.
While inarguably beneficial to dental health, the procedure and materials of crowns and bridges can be relatively expensive. Some cases are covered by insurance (wholly or partly), but it depends on the company and the reason for the crown and/or bridge. Those put in place solely for cosmetic purposes may not always be covered, or may only be covered after a specific deductible has been met.
